Notice of Board of Directors Election: Declaration of Candidacy

Considering serving on the Judo Ontario Board of Directors?

To help prospective candidates better understand the role and expectations of Board service, Judo Ontario has developed a Board Roles and Responsibilities document and updates Position Descriptions for each elected office. These resources outline the Board's governance role, Director responsibilities, expected time commitment, committee participation, and the specific responsibilities and qualifications associated with each Board position.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to review these documents before submitting their nomination to gain a clear understanding of the responsibilities, expectations, and opportunities associated with serving on the Board of Directors.



Nominations are now being accepted for the following positions to be elected at the 2026 Judo Ontario Annual General Meeting:

  • President (3yr term) - incumbent at max term limit

  • Treasurer (2yr term) - incumbent at max term limit

  • Vice-President Technical (2yr term)

  • Director at Large (3yr term) - incumbent at max term limit (VP Operations)

  • Director at Large (2yr term)


Declaration Process:

The deadline to submit a Declaration of Candidacy is August 4, 2026.  Complete the Declaration of Candidacy Form and submit it by email to the Chief Elections Officer, John Ormston.

Declarations must be received no later than August 4, 2026. Late submissions cannot be accepted. Candidates are encouraged to submit a one-page résumé outlining their experience and qualifications.  All Declarations of Candidacy will remain confidential until the official list of candidates is published on or before August 14, 2026.


Candidate Eligibility:

Candidates must meet the eligibility requirements established in the Judo Ontario Bylaws and Election Policy.

  • All directors must be at least 18 years of age at the time of election.

  • All directors must be registered members of Judo Ontario

  • Be a member in good standing of Judo Ontario.

  • The President, Secretary General, Vice-President Technical and Vice-President Competitions must be Black Belt Members (hold a Yudansha rank)
