2014 Hatashita Ontario Team Championships

Wednesday July 9th, 2014

On Wednesday, July 2nd, Judo Ontario and sponsor Hatashita International put forward the challenge.  Who is the best club in Ontario?

Four clubs accepted the challenge by entering their club teams.  Teams were to consist of three men and two women in a challenge for the title of the Hatashita Ontario Team Champion.  The competition's head referee, Gerald Okimura, ensured that Judo Ontario provided top notch refereeing for this premiere event.  The JCCC Kobayashi Hall was the perfect spectacular venue for this event; thanks to the JCCC for their support.

The clubs participating were Ajax Budokan, Kawasaki Rendokan, JCCC Judo Kai, and Scarborough Dojo.  An intense preliminary round left Scarborough Dojo and Kawasaki Rendokan in a battle for the Bronze, and Ajax Budokan was charged to compete with  the JCCC Judo Kai for the Gold.

Although Kawasaki Rendokan entered the competition with only a three person team, they were victorious over Scarborough Dojo to finish the competition with a third place conclusion.

The Gold medal finals had the crowd on the edge of their seats as the JCCC Judokai was able to defend their 2013 first place finish in the team competition with a repeat first place finish over the very competitive Ajax Budokan team.

The JCCC Judo Kai Championship Team consisted of the following athletes:
  • Megan Peterkin
  • Pricilla Campos
  • Youssef Youssef
  • Yassim Youssef
  • Shady El Nahas
  • Huy Truong
  • Coach:  Ken Fukushima
The winner of the award for most outstanding ippon went to Pricilla Campos for her spectacular throw in the team championships finals.

During the competition, Judo Ontario also took the opportunity to thank the clubs who have made significant contributions to Judo Ontario by presenting them with the Most Outstanding Club Contribution Award.  This award was given to Tora Judo Club, Ajax Budokan Judo Club and JCCC Judokai.

Congratulations go to all competitiors and their coaches.  This event was made possible thanks to the work of Pedro Guedes and Steven Sheffield, and the support of the sponsor Hatashita International.  Additionally,  thank you to the many volunteers, referees and helpers who made this event possible.
