In control, Kelita Zupancic wins silver medal
Montreal, December 4, 2010 – Ontario’s Kelita Zupancic won the silver medal in women’s 70 kilos on Saturday at a World Cup judo competition in Suwon, South Korea.

She eliminated Qianchu Wang of China and Jung-Mun Chan of South Korea by Ippon in her first two bouts then took another South Korean Mi-Young Choi by Waza-ari in the semifinal.

In the final, the 20-year-old Canadian, ranked 12th in the world, faced Ye-Sul Hwang of South Korea, ranked third in the world and seventh at the world championships in September.

The bout went the distance with the Korean prevailing by Waza-ari.

‘’Kelita had a very good tournament,’’ said Canadian coach Sergio Pessoa. ‘’She won her bouts because she was in control. The final was very dynamic but the Korean was superior. ’’

‘’With that result she should climb the international rankings. She will be even more motivated for the Grand Slam event in Tokyo next weekend.’’
