Antoine Valois-Fortier finishes 7th

Wednesday August 10th, 2016

Four years after his bronze medal finish in London, Antoine returned with high hopes for the podium. However, after a strong fight that went to golden score against the Russian in the quaterfinal, he was sent down to the repechage. His next fight would be against his longtime nemesis, Japanese judoka Takanori Nagese. Antoine admits to a weakness against the Japanese style of judo, fast footed and very agile with rapid changes in direction.

While he finished far from the podium, Antoine told the reporters that he was content with his training and preparation leading up to the games.

“I got to the start line knowing that I did everything I could possibly do.”

The Russian and the Japanese went on to gold and bronze respectively.
