Judo Ontario Luciano Correa Clinic A Transfer of Knowledge

Sunday January 25th, 2015

On Saturday, January 17th, 2015, Judo Ontario athletes and coaches had the opportunity to learn winning techniques from 2007 Sr. World Judo Champion, Luciano Correa.

Like many young judoka, Luciano began judo at the age of 4 and like many Canadian judoka, he attended his first Nationals at the age of 14.  He won his first National Title at the age of 16.  Luciano continued his success and became a Brazilian National Team Member, winning a bronze medal at the 2005 World Championships and a gold medal at the 2007 World Championships.  Additionally, he won a gold medal at the 2011 Pan American Games and silver at the 2014 Pan American Championships.  He competed in 7 World Championships, 2 Pan American Games, 7 Pan American Championships and participated in 3 Olympic Games.  He has a degree in Business Administration and is working toward the completion of his MBA in Sports Management.

During the clinic he led the group through the technical details of his favourite moves and circulated around the mat to help athletes and coaches.  At the end of the clinic, during the Q & A period, he discussed his rigorous twice a day training schedule and his intense strength and conditioning program.

The clinic was well attended with athletes from the following clubs in attendance:  Ajax Budokan, Full Circle Judo Club, M&D Siladi, Hayabusakan, Formokan, JCCC Judokai, Scarborough Dojo, Sheffield Judo, Trent Judo Club, Kawasaki Rendokan, Tora Judo Club, Kaizen,  Shinbukan, and Taifu.

Many thanks to those who supported the program.  This type of support, allows Judo Ontario to continue to bring more innovative and valuable programs to its members.  Thanks also to Pedro Guedes for organizing the event, and to the Ajax Budokan Judo Club for hosting.  It is programs like these that will make Ontario stronger.
