Tom Kasprzyk Honoured

Tuesday May 27th, 2014
Tom Kasprzyk who is battling pancreatic cancer was honoured on Friday, May 23 at his home in  Smithville, ON. The ceremony which, at the request of the family, was kept brief due to the severity of Tom’s illness was attended by representatives of Judo Ontario.
Judo Canada on the advice of the Judo Ontario Grading Board was pleased to award Tom his promotion to Yondan (4th Degree Black Belt). He was presented with his Yondan Grading Certificate and new Black Belt.
Each year Judo Ontario recognizes worthy members and presents awards for their contribution to the betterment of Judo in Ontario. In recognizing Tom’s long-time involvement as a high rank referee, mentor and educator to many Ontario and indeed other Canadian Referees, the Judo Ontario Board has decided that the annual refereeing contribution award in the province would be renamed “The Tom Kasprzyk Outstanding Referee Contribution Award”. Tom was asked if he had a mantra when it comes to refereeing and he was pleased to offer “Advancing Judo through Officiating”.
Tom was presented with the first keeper trophy and permanent plaque listing the annual recipients of the award carrying the following engraving:
