HEIDELBERG V.I. CHAMPIONSHIP

January 15, 2011-02-02

TOM THOMSON, NATIONAL COACH

Two members of the V.I. Judo team competed in Germany in January, at the German Olympic training center, which is located in Heidelberg. These players were Justin Karn (-60kg) of Kitchener, and Tony Walby (+100kg) of Ottawa. This competition was a warm up to the World Blind Games, which will take place in Antalya Turkey in early April. The World Games is a qualifier for the 2012 London Paralympics. This competition was attended by ten countries and featured a number of seeded players

Both players did well and were refining their strategies for the upcoming qualifier, and both gained the silver medal. They had the opportunity to continue their practice, by participating in a three-day international training camp.

The expedition to this event was highly successful and bodes well for good results in upcoming events.
